One main reason tourists come to El Calafate is to see the Glaciar Perito Moreno 78 kms from town.
The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. 5 kms wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Lake Argentino, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft).
It is an impressive site to see and to hear the ice break is even more impressive. Unfortunately I didn't capture any photos of collapsing ice.
